Abagold donates blankets to children in need (Hermanus Times)

After becoming aware of the recent burglary at the Rotary Haven Crèche and the good work being done at the Izibusiso (Many Blessings) foster home for babies and toddlers, Abagold staff members decided to get involved.
Employees raised R500 and the company matched their contribution. With the onset of winter it was decided to have blankets made for the children. In addition, a donation of 48 lucky packets sourced from Laceys in New Germany, made it possible to include one with each blanket.
Staff at Izibusiso accepted the blankets and lucky packets donated by Abagold on behalf of the children. At the handover of the gifts, were: back from left: Janice Taylor and Johan Hugo, from Abagold, front from Left: Beauty Mgwedane, Abagold, Nombulelo Gwebeleweni, Luleka Sapepa, Phomza Nynlela, new Izibusiso House Mother, and Glenda Fürst, United Church.
Rotary Haven Crèche, situated in Mount Pleasant , looks after 40 young children during the day. The crèche cares for children from the age of three years until grade R. This year there are two grade R classes. The Rotary Haven Crèche is managed by Hermanus Child Welfare Society. The teachers at are currently furthering their qualifications through Boland College.
Blankets to ease the winter chills and lucky packets were presented to the 40 children at Rotary Haven Crèche by Abagold staff members, Johan Hugo, Janice Taylor and Beauty Mgwedane on Monday 17 May.
Izibusiso is a partnership between the Overstrand Municipality, Hermanus Child Welfare and the United Church and operates from a house in Zwelihle where up to eight babies and toddlers up to the age of three years are cared for by the House Mother, Phumsa Nynlela as well as her assistants, Luleka Sapepa and Nombulelo Gwebeleweni.
On Monday the blankets were handed over to the beneficiaries at Izibusiso and to Adel Julies and the group of children from Rotary Haven Crèche by Johan Hugo, Abagold Financial Manager, Janice Taylor, Abagold HR Manager and Beauty Mgwedane, Abagold Assistant Farm Manager.

With every blanket the children received a lucky packet from a generous donation made by Laceys.

Firlyn Gillion was one of the children at Rotary Haven Crèche who received a blanket and Lucky Packet. Both her parents, Frank and Magdalene are employees at Abagold.
