Tim Hedges

Managing Director

Tim was appointed as Managing Director of Abagold on the 1st of April 2015.

Tim obtained his BSc (Agric) and BSc (Agric) Hons (Animal Production), from Stellenbosch University in 1986.

Tim started his career in Agriculture, where he launched and managed an agricultural marketing company, Farmwise LTD, in the early 1990’s. This company still exists today and is the largest supplier of fresh potatoes to the South African premium retail chain of Woolworths. Tim is a Non-Executive director at Farmwise.

He then joined McCain Foods in 1996 and worked all around the world with this family owned Global Multi-National Food processor. Time was spent in Argentina, UK, Holland and Canada where he fulfilled a variety of senior positions in Management, Sales, Marketing and Supply Chain, before returning to South Africa in 2006. He worked for the South African McCain operation as a director of Agriculture.

Tim left McCain in 2008 to enter the world of Private Equity, where he performed the CEO roles for a number of organisations. These companies include, Incolabs (Personal care consumer Goods), Hedgeware trading (CSI initiatives in Agriculture) and most recently, Tim was heading up the family owned Vegetarian Food Company, Fry Group Foods, as their Managing Director before joining Abagold in 2015.

Werner Piek

Marketing and Sales Manager

Werner joined Abagold in 2006 to head up the new processing plant.

After studying food technology at the Cape Technikon, Werner started his career in the fresh fruit industry as a quality assessor at PPECB. In 2000, he became involved with an internet start-up company marketing fresh fruit on the internet. He was one of the founder directors of FairTrade South Africa (FTSA) and served two years as Chairperson on the FTSA trust. During this time, he was a representative for Southern Africa on the African Fairtrade Network (AFN).

Stoffel van Dyk

Director of Operations

Stoffel was appointed Operation Manager in 2006 and is responsible for operations on all four of the Abagold Farms; Sea View, Bergsig, Amaza and Sulamanzi.

Having received his B.Sc. Agric in 1996, followed by his Hons.B.Sc. Agric in 1997 at Stellenbosch University, Stoffel joined an animal production research and farm technology laboratory at University of Leuven (Belgium) in 1998, whereafter he worked at Rainbow Farms. Stoffel was promoted to Chief Operating Officer at the end of 2013. He joined the Board of Directors in February 2014.

Lou-Anne Lubbe

Human Resource Director

Lou-Anne joined Abagold as Human Resources Manager in January 2012.

Lou-Anne obtained her MBA from Brunel in the UK. She started her career in Human Resources at Woolworths. Lou-Anne joined Creda Communications where she was the HR Director and then became General Manager. She then moved into Management Consulting in the area of Human Capital Consulting. Lou-Anne spent 11 years in Management Consulting of which the last six years was with Accenture, where she was the Senior Executive leading their Talent and Organisation consulting practise.

Judy Bakker

Financial Manager

Judy joined Abagold at the end of 2014.

Judy is a chartered accountant with 16 year’s experience in financial management and business development. After finishing her articles at Deloitte in 1999, Judy joined Sasani Ltd where she held the position of head of finance and business development in a number of the group companies. In 2008, Judy re-joined Deloitte to head up a new division – Deloitte Media & Entertainment. Judy then joined M-Net in 2013, where she held the position of financial manager of local productions (Kyknet, Mzansi and Africa channels), and was later promoted to financially manage the international channels (M-Net, M-Net movies and series) and media operations.

Christiaan de Wet

Engineering Manager

Following several years of working in the UK and USA, Christiaan returned to South Africa in 2006 to join Abagold as Engineering Manager.

Christiaan completed his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1996, after which he started his career at Volkswagen where he developed and launched VWSA approved climate control systems. He joined Ford Motor Company in the UK as a senior thermal and aerodynamics systems engineer, after which he was employed by Visteon Corporation in Plymouth, MI, USA, as a HVAC Design Engineer.
